Validating data in forms is essential to ensure the information collected is accurate and useful.
With Yay! Forms, you can add input masks to format and validate SSN, EIN, ZIP Codes, and other numeric formats easily and efficiently.
Today, I’ll show you how to configure these validations in your form! Ready? 🚀
Input masks are predefined patterns applied to text fields that automatically format the data entered by users.
They ensure that information follows a specific format, improving the user experience and ensuring data consistency.
How Input Mask Characters Work in Yay! Forms:
• # ➜ Allows numeric input (0-9).
• @ ➜ Allows letter input (A-Z, a-z).
• * ➜ Allows numbers or letters.
Any other character entered in the mask will appear as a fixed character in the field, acting as a separator.
To configure an input mask in a Short Text field in Yay! Forms, follow these steps:
Log into Yay! Forms and select the form you want to edit.
In the form editor, add a new short text field or select an existing one where you want to apply the mask.
• Open the field settings on the right-side menu.
• Find the “Input Mask” option and activate it.
• Enter the desired mask format using the special characters mentioned earlier.
Once the mask is set, save and publish your form so users can enter data in the correct format.
In Yay! Forms, you can configure input masks to ensure users enter data correctly. Below are the mask formats for SSN, EIN, and ZIP Code.
The SSN consists of 9 digits and follows the format “999-99-9999”. To configure this mask in Yay! Forms:
1️⃣ Add a “Short Text” field to your form.
2️⃣ Enable the “Input Mask” option in the field settings.
3️⃣ Enter the mask: ###-##-####.
4️⃣ Save and publish to ensure users enter their SSN correctly.
The EIN consists of 9 digits and follows the format “99-9999999”. To apply this mask:
1️⃣ Select a “Short Text” field in the Yay! Forms editor.
2️⃣ Enable the “Input Mask” option.
3️⃣ Enter the mask: ##-#######.
4️⃣ Save and test the field before publishing the form.
The ZIP Code in the US consists of 5 or 9 digits and follows the format “99999” or “99999-9999”. To configure this mask:
1️⃣ Add a “Short Text” field in the form.
2️⃣ Enable the mask and enter one of the following formats:
• 5-digit ZIP Code: #####
• ZIP+4 format: #####-####
3️⃣ Save and publish the form.
With these masks applied, users will be guided to enter data correctly, reducing errors and ensuring greater accuracy in data collection. 🎯
Below are some examples of custom input masks that can be applied in Yay! Forms:
If you want to standardize order numbers that begin with a fixed prefix followed by a numeric sequence, use the following mask:
📌 Example: Prefix “ORD” followed by 5 numeric digits.
• Mask: ORD#####
• Expected format: ORD12345
With this setup, the prefix “ORD” is fixed, and users must enter a sequence of five numbers after the prefix.
For product codes that follow a specific pattern of letters and numbers, such as two letters followed by four numbers:
• Mask: @@####
• Expected format: AB1234
In this mask, the first two characters must be letters, followed by a four-digit numeric sequence.
Know the data format: Before creating a mask, ensure you understand the exact format of the data you want to collect.
Be specific: The more precise the mask, the lower the chance of incorrect data entry.
Test the mask: After setting it up, test the form to make sure the mask works as expected and that users can enter data correctly.
Provide clear instructions: Add descriptions or examples near the field to guide users on the expected format.
Implementing input masks in Yay! Forms is a powerful way to ensure data consistency and accuracy. By defining specific formats for fields such as order numbers, corporate emails, SSNs, EINs, and ZIP Codes, you enhance the user experience and ensure that information is collected in a standardized manner.
